kiran rao to debut as a singer for aamir khan’s water campaign

Aamir Khan, who decided to do his bit for the constant rise of water shortage in the country, started the Paani Foundation in association with his wife Kiran Rao and former wife Reena Datta. The superstar wishes to take the Water Cup initiative, which kick started last year, a little further and in the same attempt he has decided to make a music video.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have come together for a music video of sorts in order to create awareness about the ongoing water issue in villages in Maharashtra. Moreover, Kiran has lent her voice as a singer for the first time in the video in question and she has sung the song in Marathi. Further considering the impact that the Marathi film Sairat had in the state, the makers of the music video have roped in the lead actors of the same film Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru. While music for this special video has been composed by Ajay-Atul, the lyrics are penned by Guru Thakur. It is directed by Nagraj Manjule and is said to release on the next Water Cup initiative press conference to be held on January 3.

Besides this, the second edition of Water Cup initiative will kick start on the same day. While there will be over thirty talukas participating in the contest, the names of these talukas will be announced on the third amidst the presence of Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

“The Satyamev Jayate Water Cup is essentially a competition between different villages to see who can do the maximum work for watershed management and water conservation in the period of the competition. The competition period is April 8 to May 22. The top three villages across Maharashtra will get a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakhs, Rs. 30 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs respectively. In addition, the top village from each taluka will get a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs,” said a statement released by Reena Datta, the COO of Paani Foundation.
