Makers of Bittoo Boss are miffed with the manner in which their theatrical promo has come under the axe. Apparently, the Censor Board has found the humour quotient in the film way too risque and have simply banned its screening in theatres as well as television.

“The promo comes with the tagline of ‘Bittoo Sab Ki Lega!!!’ which basically refers to clicking a picture since the central protagonist Bittoo (played by newcomer Pulkit Samrat) is actually a photographer. Along with the 100 seconds promo, a song also plays which has the word ‘lega’ in practically every line. The Censor Board saw red when producer Abhishek Pathak sent the promo for a certificate and instantly rejected it”, says a source.

The makers are annoyed at the verdict being handed over to them since they feel it is clearly the case of double standards shown by the authorities.

“In Ra.One, even Shah Rukh Khan’s opening scene had him fighting three women who were called ‘Iski Lee, ‘Uski Lee’ and ‘Sabki Lee’. Wasn’t that risqué if the same parameters are followed? Moreover, Vidya Balan’s orgasmic moans formed her very first scene of The Dirty Picture and that was passed as well. As for Delhi Belly, everyone has seen and heard what the film stood for. Just because there were people like Shah Rukh Khan, Ekta Kapoor and Aamir Khan involved, their films were accommodated while Bittoo Boss is seeing such protest coming its way. That’s totally unfair”, says a source close to Abhishek.

The makers aren’t new to such backlash coming from the Censors though. For their last film Pyaar Ka Punchnama (which has actually gained a cult status amongst youth ever since it’s release last year), they had to beep quite a few dialogues and also shorten a love making scene. It’s a different matter that these very dialogues went on to be a huge success but now it seems with Bittoo Boss, Pathaks would have to resume their battle with the Censor Board all over again.

“I won’t deny that the promo is indeed naughty. But come on, what age are we living in”, says a livid Abhishek, “If you look at the promo, it is plain fun with nothing really offensive. We have shown it to family audience and there were no signs of awkwardness. As for the youth segment, I don’t see anyone really feeling uncomfortable with the language here. We are not getting abusive and there is not a single shot of nudity. We are going to have another round of conversation with Censors soon. If they can allow Shah Rukh, they can’t deny us the same language just because we have a newcomer hero amidst us.”

Meanwhile the uncensored version has made it to the internet already and has invoked widespread reactions. Let’s see whether Shah Rukh manages to catch Bittoo in some action as well.
