High Court exempts Akshay Kumar from personal appearance in defamation case news

Akshay Kumar had kickstarted the year with Jolly LLB 2 which was a satiricial courtroom drama.  In the trailer, Akshay Kumar had mentioned the brand Bata footwear in it. After the trailer release, the brand Bata had filed a complaint against the makers of the film. In the complaint that Bata India Limited had filed, they had alleged that first official trailer had disparaging comments and defamatory reference against their brand.

On Wednesday, April 26, the Delhi High Court exempted Akshay Kumar from his personal appearance before a trial court. The Justice Mukta Gupta granted Akshay Kumar and informed that Akshay Kumar can be represented through his advocate before the court.

On February 8, the trial court had issued summons to Jolly LLB 2 producer Fox Star Studios India Private Limited, executive producer Naren Kumar, director Subhash Kapoor and actors Akshay Kumar and Annu Kapoor and others. They were asked to appear in court in a defamation case filed by Bata shoe company. Later, Akshay challenged the summons in the High Court.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar is currently shooting for Twinkle Khanna’s production PadMan. It stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. Directed by R Balki, Amitabh Bachchan also has a special appearance in the film.
