From China to U.S. to India, 3 Idiots was one of Aamir Khan’s most successful films and did immense business worldwide. The film was also widely critically acclaimed and won many awards. What followed were several remakes of the same including a Tamil version and now we hear that there was a Spanish version too.

The college drama was remade in Spanish with Spanish artists and the film hit the screens in March this year in Mexico. But what wasn’t expected was the film disappearing without any trace owing to the low response in the country. According to reports, the Spanish film 3 Idiotas faced several setbacks like not finding takes and releasing unannounced.

While the Carlos Bolado directorial had all elements taken from the original, from humour to college romance and bromance to good music, the film failed to make a mark at the Mexican box office. Reportedly, the reviews too were disappointing and we hear that it was the ethos as well as the heart-touching moments from the original that were missing in the Spanish film.

Owing to this response, we hear that 3 Idiotas that is slated to release in U.S in June will be releasing in much lesser screens.

3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, originally starred Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani and Omi Vaidya in lead roles.
