“Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir had to go through a lot. He had that incident on the set. His spirit was broken. He’s putting his blood and life into something and he has gone through that,” said a visibly pained Ranveer Singh in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive interview with Faridoon Shahryar. Ranveer recalled how stressful the shooting for Padmaavat was. “I am performing for a scene, finish it and come back while someone is telling Sanjay sir ke ye ho raha hai vo ho raha hai. He has a free moment from directing he’s on the phone discussing something or the other (regarding the controversy). He had to multi task. That man put every ounce of himself into making this film,” said Ranveer.

Talking about Khilji, Ranveer said, “It was a very very scary character to commit to. My main apprehension was about myself. I was going crazy playing this character.” Singh shared a sparkling chemistry with Jim Sarbh. “There’s so much chatter about mine and Jim’s character. So many props for Jim as well. It’s awesome,” Ranveer said. He also said that after watching Jim’s terrorist act in Neerja, it was he who suggested his name to Mr Bhansali.

Ranveer admitted that he based Khilji’s movements on a Snake and his physical structure and facial expressions on a silver backed gorilla. Ranveer stated that he was moved to tears after observing Deepika Padukone’s last scene in Padmaavat. “I had a blast working with Shahid Kapoor. It’s great to collaborate with someone like him,” Ranveer said.

Ranveer Singh is currently shooting for Gully Boy and is super kicked about it. He’s looking forward to working with blockbuster director Rohit Shetty on Simmba. When asked about the Kabir Khan film on 1983 Cricket World Cup where he plays Kapil Dev, Singh said, “It’s a huge challenge to get that physicality, speech pattern, bowling action and body language.”
