Encounter specialist Daya Nayak, whose life and times Ab Tak Chappan was based on, has been reinstated within the police force. Now this is a matter of double celebration for all involved since Ab Tak Chappan 2 also has the same plot, hence resulting in the merging of reel and real life.

"Ab Tak Chappan 2 has been in the making for some time and there have been on and off news around how Nana Patekar had taken over the film as a director. Later when the First Look of the film was released around the time of Department, it was said that Nana wasn't too happy with its content since he wanted it more in-your-face rather than subtle. Last nail in the coffin was the disastrous response to Department due to which Ab Tak Chappan 2 was said to have gone on a backburner. However, with Daya Nayak being back in news, it is expected to inject new vigor in the film's promotion and subsequent release", says an insider.

For the uninitiated, Daya Nayal, a police sub-inspector and encounter specialist was famous for his 56 encounters, hence resulting in Ram Gopal Varma backing Shimit Amin's endeavour to make a film on his life – Ab Tak Chappan. Though no one went on record to term the film as Daya Nayak's life story, the references made it more than just obvious.

"However, many did feel if there was any scope for a sequel, especially after Nayak was earlier suspended and later arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in a disproportionate assets case", says a source, "Ramu being Ramu still went on to make the film which deals with the protagonist's (played by Nana Patekar) reinstatement into the force and taking on the ones who had wronged him. It all seemed weird then and highly fictional but now that it has turned out to be the real life story of Nayak himself, it is clear that Ramu is having the final laugh."

The news is that the film has got a shot in the arm and would now be pitched far more aggressively than before. Guess the film's tagline of 'He is back. This time it is personal' couldn't have been better suited for both Daya Nayak and Ram Gopal Varma.
