Salman Khan addresses Tubelight failure, says the film shouldn't have released on Eid

When asked whether he can pre-empt box office ahead of the release as a producer, Salman Khan said, “Nothing.” He further added, “Like for Tubelight, I did say that yeh Eid hai, people are going there to you know, chill kar rahe hai, masti vasti karne ja rahe hai. They are going to have a great time, celebratory film hai, festival hai aur humein pata hai ki yeh script kya and that this film should not be Eid release. So they were like no no, we have got the date, how can we miss Eid. I said Eid date hai but yeh nahi ki yeh picture Eid par aana chahiye, woh date chodh do, aage chalo. They were like ‘No, no. We want to come on Eid’. But at that time I shouldn’t have put my foot down because jab log aaye nikal kar toh who celebrate karne gaye the but sab rote rote bahar nikle hai. (Tubelight was not meant for Eid release, because it was a serious film, not a celebratory film. So they were like no no, we have got the date, how can we miss Eid. So, I said this should not come on Eid but we should ago ahead instead. They were like ‘No, no. We want to come on Eid’. But at that time I shouldn’t have put my foot down because people got emotional when they came out if the theatre. It would have worked even better on a normal release).”

Tubelight was helmed by Kabir Khan and starred Sohail Khan. It released in 2017.

Coming back to his production, helmed by Nitin Kakkar, Notebook is presented by Salman Khan Films and is a Cine1 Studios Production. It is produced by Salma Khan, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde and is all set to hit the screens on March 29, 2019.
