Last weekend Bollywood lost one of its veteran actors A.K.Hangal. The actor, who entertained us with his memorable performances in films like Sholay, Saagar, Shaukeen, Aandhi, Kora Kagaz, Bawarchi, Avtaar, Arjun, finally left for his eternal abode on Sunday (26 Aug) morning after suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
However, what was sad was the fact that despite having worked with most of the top actors in his illustrious career, none of the biggies turned up for his funeral. While many actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Lara Dutta, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani etc, took to Twitter offering their condolences, they weren't spotted at the funeral which saw only the likes of Raza Murad, Ila Arun, Pawan Malhotra and Raj Zutshi in attendance.
At a special prayer meet held the subsequent day the turnout was slightly better what with celebs like Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Poonam Dhillon, Deepti Naval, Kabir Bedi paying tribute to Hangal saab. However, here too, the bigwigs of Bollywood were conspicuous by their absence. Indeed it wouldn't be wrong to say that Hangal saab died a sad, lonely death. It seems like we have lost the value of personal touch which has been sadly replaced by technological innovations.
