Early this morning Amitabh Bachchan along with his family (wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai) held a press conference pledging their support towards Plan India's initiative of celebrating World Girl Child Day. Incidentally World Girl Child Day falls on October 11 which happens to Big B's birthday.
Big B tweeted, "Early morning.. a PC to give contribution to Plan India of 25 lakhs – proceeds from book 'B70' released birthday, for girl child !! 'B70' is a large coffee table book, containing 70 paintings of all the prominent artists of India, on what they think of me. Family had committed that sale of book of 70 paintings by prominent artists of India, released by us, would go to Plan India. Plan India a world wide organisation works for girl child and education of children .. 11th Oct declared as World Girl Child Day. Plan India works for upliftment of children deprived of basics in education and other social needs .. 'B70' is available in stores. This amount of 25 lakhs given to representative, and further sales will also go to this institution, who work for girl child!! Normally do not announce charity, but this issue was important keeping recent happenings against women! Girl Child Day declared for 11th October, so found it apt since it is my birthday too, to be involved in this .. non discrimination"
