USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Earlier we had reported that the underproduction remake of the yesteryears film Zanjeer being made by Amit Mehra and Reliance had run into trouble, with the scriptwriters of the original, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, claiming copyright infringement issues. Later, Salim Khan fired off a strongly worded letter to the Scriptwriters Association which in turn called for a meeting between all parties concerned, headed by FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees), with a view to end the tussle.

However, now we hear that Mehra has slapped a legal suit against the duo (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) after realizing that they would not relent in their battle for royalties. However, no order was passed by the judge and Khan claims that according to his lawyer, the case is as good as dismissed. On the other hand, Salim-Javed who are sticking to their claim state that though Mehra will not be using Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan or Pran's performance in the film, the script was originally written by them and hence, they should be compensated for the same.

The matter is still with the FWICE and Salim-Javed will abide by the Federation's ruling. However, if the issue doesn't get resolved, they will press for an injunction on the film.

For those who are unaware, Salim-Javed have been fighting for intellectual rights over the new Zanjeer, and have sought compensation for their work to the tune of Rs. 6 crore from the makers.
