The Gunday team recently recreated the entire look and feel of Calcutta city from the 80s to shoot a dramatic Durga Puja sequence under Howrah Bridge, bringing Kolkata to a standstill. The set the makers of the film created garnered a surprising response from the locals as a crowd of over 1000 ecstatic and overjoyed people could be heard chanting slogans Joy Bikram. Joy Bala.
The city of Joy which is reveling in friendship between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor both onscreen and off screen gathered in such huge numbers to view the pandal looked liked the old Calcutta, that the makers were forced to employ a lot of security for the unit members.
Sources close to the film say, "The entire set cost about Rs 50 – 60 lakh to get the 80's look. There has been lot of planning behind this. In fact this particular sequence is a very, very important part of the film. To get the authentic look and feel, one of the oldest professionals were hired to create this pandal and they did complete justice. It just did not look like a set but a real durga puja in Calcutta."
Yash Raj Films' Gunday is currently shooting in Kolkata. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, as Bikram and Bala, along with Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, in lead roles.
