With numerous chartbusters to her credit, most of which are set in a Western mode, Deepika has quite a few songs that have contributed to her claim to fame. However, she is going through a change now with Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

"To begin with, she is turning into a quintessential 'desi girl' with the Karan Johar production", says an insider, "If her bespectacled look as Naina is a starting point, her song 'Balam Pichkaari' has been just the right follow up. If one looks closely, she is pretty much at ease letting her hair down and getting into the festive celebrations."

Now this is indeed a far cry from an ultra glam avtar that Deepika has donned in her last few outings, each of which has boasted of a club song or two to her name.

"'Party On My Mind' [Race 2], 'Tum Hi Ho Bandhu' [Cocktail] and 'Dum Maaro Dum' [Dum Maaro Dum], her last three major chartbusters, are a testimony to that," a source adds, "However in films to follow, Deepika would be seen in a different light. 'Being desi' is in and that would be evidenced starting with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani."

The latest on these lines is 'Dilliwaali Girlfriend' which has just been unveiled. While she is burning the dance floor along with Ranbir Kapoor in Indian attire, it is quite apparent that Deepika has brought to fore the kind of mannerisms and body language that she has never attempted before.

Deepika is casual though about this 'new look' and approach. On being asked if she has consciously put some definite effort in getting it all right with quintessential 'desi latka jhatka', she said, "No, that was not the case at all. The idea was to enjoy every bit of the moment that I was on the floors. Music was the starting point and the ambience did the trick."

Well, not to mention an on-screen 'jodi' with Ranbir which is weaving it's magic as well.
