Amitabh Bachchan who has since become one of Indian cinema's foremost international icons recently attended the Penguin Annual Lecture 2013 podium. The star addressed the audience at the event as he spoke about empowering the country's women, Indian cinema, poetry and more.
The 71-year-old actor arrived at the venue, the Thyagaraj Stadium in a black formal suit to the sound of the audience's applause. In his address, Bachchan even touched upon memories of his father, the late legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, whose birth anniversary happened to be just "two days ago" on November 27.
Post the event, Bachchan posted a picture on his facebook account saying, "A morning, in about to be wintered Delhi .. and last night the Penguin Lecture … honoured by the presence of the 'word' .. took my daughter Shweta along .. and a generous aftermath .. the love of the people .. thank you Delhi, thank you people, thank you Penguin …"
Past lectures have been delivered by eminent personalities like writer-journalist Thomas Friedman, diplomat-writer Chris Patten, economist Amartya Sen, historian Ramachandra Guha, the Dalai Lama and former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam.
