1996 – Amitabh Bachchan had just ventured into production with ABCL and launched a new star, Arshad Warsi, with Tere Mere Sapne.
Circa 2014 and the two would be heading for an unexpected clash, what with Arshad's Mr. Joe B. Carvalho taking on the 3D version of Sholay, the most successful and inarguably the greatest film ever coming out of Bollywood.
"Arshad hadn't seen it coming when the release date of the film, which is produced by his long standing secretary Bhola, was decided," says a close associate of the actor, "When he picked up January 3, it was an open slot available."
"Arrey yeh toh actually height ho gayi," laughs Arshad, "I had never thought in my life that one day I would be competing with Sholay. This is just not done."
However this is now happening which also means that 18 years after being given a break by Big B, he would be challenging his mentor for box office glory and as well as revenue that is generated at the box office.
"I cannot fight with Amitji, can I", Arshad questions rhetorically, "I got into film business because of him. Tere Mere Sapne was his first production. Now this year my first solo, genuine and undisputed box office hit (Jolly LLB) was actually launched by him. How can I even see any competition here?"
