USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart… She had a dream debut no less when she started her Bollywood career with a Salman Khan starrer. Now Zareen Khan, who played a 'Rajkumari' in Salman's Veer, is now stepping in as a Bond girl. Well, don't jump off yours chairs yet as this would be for a Punjabi film which is rightfully titled Jatt James Bond.
"The film is marking the foray of Zareen into Punjabi films. However, it is no ordinary start as the man who is playing Bond is the Salman Khan of Punjabi films – Gippy Grewal," informs a source.
Gippy, who in a limited career of just eight films, hasn't seen a flop so far and has been enjoying a dream run. With major hits like Carry on Jatta and Lucky Di Unlucky Story, he caught Akshay Kumar's eye as well who pronto produced Bhaji In Problem late last year. No wonder, Zareen jumped on the opportunity when Jatt James Bond came her way.
"Even though Veer seemed like a jump start for Zareen, that wasn't really the case. She was criticized for her excess weight which Zareen promptly attributed to the demand of the script. Later she did appear in a 100 crore super hit Housefull 2 but somehow that didn't translate into big films coming her way. There was no dearth of offers though but Zareen wanted something substantial this time around," the source adds.
In the interim Zareen did an item number on the lines of 'Chikni Chameli' for a Telugu film Naan Rajavaga Pogiren owing to her splitting similarities with Katrina Kaif. However, when it came to films, she wanted only to feature in a major film where she had an important role to play as well.
"This is what she gets to do in Jatt James Bond," says a close associate, "Unlike a quintessential James Bond film, this is as rooted to Punjab as it gets. The film has a major love story element to it with a violent streak to it as well. After Mirza: The Untold Story, this is only the second film for Gippy where he would be getting into an action 'avtar'. As for Zareen, it is going to be a hardcore Punjabi 'kudi' persona that she would be wearing."
The film is also special for director Rohit Jugraj, a Ram Gopal Varma protege, who would be foraying into a Punjabi film after making films like Superstar and James.
