As Rana, the friendly cop in Vidya Balan's Kahaani, Bengali actor Parambrata Chatterjee had made a tremendous first impression. Though one would have expected him to pick more Bollywood roles in months to follow, the actor continued his stint with Bengali films and even went on to direct one. Now close to 10 films later, Param (as he is fondly called) returns as an ad film director in Gang of Ghosts. "This time around he would be seen in a comic role. He had played the same part in the Bengali original Bhooter Bhabishyat. While he played a Bengali there, this time around he is playing a filmmaker from Mumbai," informs our source.
Incidentally, Bhooter Bhabishyat was Param's immediate next release after Kahaani. When Satish Kaushik got the rights for the film's Hindi version, he made up his mind to cast the actor in his film. Ironically, he is the only actor amongst a dozen other artists from the ensemble starrer who has managed to make it to the Hindi version.
"Param felt that the script of Gang of Ghosts worked for him even after the changes that I had introduced. He well understood how I wanted to treat the film differently from the Bengali original. Since he is a director himself, he understands that every filmmaker's vision is different and it is also guided by the market that the film is catering to. Param told me that the changes I had made were apt for the Hindi commercial mould. After all, Bengalis are much more artistic in spirit and my film was catering to a much commercial world," quips Kaushik.
As for the actor's return to Hindi fold after two years [Kahaani was released in March 2012], Kaushik is happy that Param took this call for his Gang of Ghosts.
"He has played the same role before but still so beautifully given a different angle to his part. As an ad filmmaker, he is totally different from what he did in Bhooter Bhabishyat v/s Gang of Ghosts," Kaushik adds.
