On her new pal Sanjay Leela Bhansali's request, Priyanka Chopra flew into Mumbai specially to attend to the first-look event for Mary Kom and to attend a special birthday party hosted by the filmmaker for his new favourite.
In fact, Priyanka flew out to the US straight after the party at SLB's residence on Friday night.
It was Aishwarya Rai, who at one time, inspired Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make a trilogy of great films, namely Devdas, Hum…Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Guzaarish. For a while, it was Rani Mukerji who seemed to occupy SLB's muse-space. Then, it seemed Deepika Padukone had taken over as SLB's resident muse when he signed her for Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani. But it's Priyanka Chopra, with whom SLB has hit it off like no other actress before, so much so that he actually did the unthinkable for Priyanka Chopra.
The SLB-PC dosti is the talk of tinsel town. Their association started when he offered her the item song in Ram Leela which was rejected by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The item song became a success beyond anything Priyanka Chopra had imagined.
Followed Mary Kom. Though Sanjay Leela Bhansali has only produced the film, he apparently sat on the final editing and took Priyanka's role to another level. Says a source close to SLB, "Mary Kom has been designed to turn PC into a hero of the masses. PC was so impressed by SLB that she blindly and unquestioningly said yes to a role in Bajirao Mastani, although she didn't have the title role."
