USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…On her 72nd birthday on October 2, yesteryears' boxoffice queen Asha Parekh was surprised by her contemporary, the very beautiful Saira Banu, by an impromptu visit. The two chatted about old times and had dinner together.
Says Asha, "It was a very pleasant surprise.And least expected. Saira just decided to drop home to wish me.And we sat and chatted for quite a while."
Interestingly, Saira is not known to socialize these days, choosing instead to stay home to look after her husband the legendary Dilip Kumar.
Says Asha, "It was a very pleasant surprise considering Saira hardly ever leaves Yusuf Saab alone. We are contemporaries. But we were never rivals. We meet very warmly even today. The roles that Saira did went to her and the roles that I did were meant for me.Producers never went to either of us for roles that were meant for others."
Asked to single out her favourite Saira Banu starrers Ashaji sighs, "There were so many. I like Shagird, Sagina, Padosan and Purab Aur Pachim. She was and remains very beautiful."
