Karan Johar acquires rights for film on Dhyanchands life

In the recent past, we have seen sports based films making it big in Bollywood, be a Bhaag Milkha Bhaag with Farhan Akhtar or a Mary Kom with Priyanka Chopra, sports biopics have been well received by the audience. Now we hear that Karan Johar is all set on making a similar film, this time based on Indian hockey legend Dhyanchand.

In fact Karan Johar made a formal announcement on twitter saying, "My friends Pooja…Aarti Shetty and I are honoured and proud to have the rights to tell the story of the legendary sportsman # DHYANCHAND…" However, no further details have been revealed.

As for the sportsman, Dhyanchand on whom the film will be based played at a time when India dominated hockey. In fact he was bestowed with the title of 'Wizard' for his skills on the playing field scoring over 400 goals in his career that spanned from 1926-1948 on the Indian squad and 1921-1956 as part of the Indian Army team.
