A news report that Subhash Ghai's Khalnayak, the 1993 ominous thriller about a terrorist on the run which was released when the leading man Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned, will be remade by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, turns out to be completely false.
Sources say that Bhansali who has just started shooting his ambitious historical Bajirao Mastani has no time or attention for any other project.
While welcoming the move by eminent filmmakers to revamp his successful films, Ghai says, "I respect Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a unique filmmaker who has also proved himself as an independent producer with Rowdy Rathore and Mary Kom. But I have not made up my mind about selling the remake rights of Khalnayak. Let's wait and see. Having said that, I must admit I feel honoured when my past movies are being considered by my filmmaker-friends for remakes, as they are still seen to be contemporary in content and characterization."
Subhash Ghai says he is not opposed to the idea of remaking his films. "My door is open for all serious-minded filmmakers. And if destiny wills it, more of my films would be remade."
