USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Recently, it was revealed that how Rajinikanth's much awaited Lingaa had been acquired by Eros for the cost price of 100-120 crore. Now, there is more. Apparently, the film has fetched a slew of buyers already and Eros is all set to bring home over 200 crore even before the first show commences.
Confirms a trade source, "There are huge numbers already in circulation, and it is a matter of time before the deals are signed on the dotted line. 55-60 crore are all set to come in for the satellite rights of the Tamil and Telugu version. Further, 70-75 crore offer is already there for the taking w.r.t. Tamil theatrical rights in India. Telugu theatrical rights are further fetching them 30-35 crore. In addition, the film is being sold overseas for approx. 30 crore just for the Tamil version. In addition to this all, there are music rights which are with Eros."
While this is around the 200 crore mark, the deal is being looked at as a win-win situation for all.
"Rockline Venkatesh, the producer of Lingaa, has sold the rights of Lingaa to Eros on cost of production. Now, they have a profit sharing deal and with such numbers coming well in advance, a fortune is there for the taking when the film opens for audience. With good theatrical revenue expected from Lingaa, considering the fact that it is front lined by Rajinikanth who is coming back to the big screen four years after Endhiran/Robot (his Kochadaiiyaan was an animation flick), the film is super-hot for all involved," an industry insider adds.
While one awaits an official announcement around the final calculations, one can pretty much expect a hurricane before 2014 comes to a close when Lingaa releases this December on a record number of screens. With Bollywood's Sonakshi Sinha and Telugu film world's Anushka Shetty adding on to the star quotient, there is a lot more that would be read and spoken about Lingaa in weeks to come.
