After multiple accusations, complaints and unconditional apologies we now hear that an FIR has been lodged against 14 people who were a part of or attended the live event of the show.
In fact, a Girgaon court has directed the Tardeo police station in Mumbai to register a first information report (FIR) against 14 people and others involved in the controversial AIB Roast show including Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, standup comedians Rohan Joshi, Tanmai Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, film critic Rajeev Masand and venue officials among others.
The said ruling issued by C.S. Baviskar, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Girgaon Court comes after social activist, Santosh Daundkar filed a complaint through Advocate Ms. Abha Singh. The complaint was filed after the police failed to take cognizance of a written complaint submitted to the Tardeo Police Station. Under section 177 of the Criminal Procedure Code, a metropolitan court has the statutory jurisdiction over the place of offence.
The sections under which the complaint would be registered include section 120-b (criminal conspiracy), sections 294, 509 (speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a women audience) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 67 and 66 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the internet). The provisions of Bombay Police Act 1951, the Environment Protect Act, 1986, and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 would also be included in the FIR.
