Anushka Sharma

If the self-willed, very strong-headed Anushka Sharma had her way, she would have never gone to Sydney to watch the decisive game that aborted India's chances at the World Cup.

A friend reveals Anushka wanted to stay away. "We heard it was Virat who insisted she be there. She had told her close friends that she wasn't going to go. She doesn't like being judged as a source of distraction at the matches."

Friends say the constant attention on their relationship has begun to take a toll on Anushka's self-respect.

"She never wanted all this attention. It sickens her to be constantly under scrutiny for her relationship. If this ceaseless interest in their relationship and the tendency to judge her constantly through his performances on field continues, we are afraid this may take its toll on their relationship," says a friend of the actress.

The immediate fall-out of the Sydney fiasco is that Anushka is unlikely to attend any more of the cricket matches.

A source from the BCCI says that the demand for wives and girlfriends of cricketers to be kept away from important matches would now be even more seriously implemented.

"This is not a matter of personal freedom. It's a matter of national pride," says the BCCI source.
