Ranbir Kapoor scorches Goa dancing to Baby Doll and London Thumakda

Ranbir Kapoor has been swaying generations through his brilliantly choreographed dance numbers over the years. But when he lets his hair lose unaided by a high profile choreographer, Kapoor Junior is even better. That's what the media contingent from all across India discovered at the Amit Trivedi Concert at Park Hyatt Resort in Goa on May 4. Post an exhilarating evening devoted to the Jazz-brilliance of Neeti Mohan (she looks as pretty as her spellbinding vocals), Ranbir went into the well and danced away to glory with journalists. Sunny Leone would be glad to know that 'Baby Doll' is a Ranbir favourite and his 'moves' reeked of a joyous celebration of life.

The maximum fun was reserved for 'London Thumakda' from Queen. Ranbir climbed atop the shoulders of a journalists, shook a leg with many a journalists and even did a lap dance with a senior journalist. His dance moves on 'Tai Tai Phis' from Chillar Party were electrifying. Karan Johar justified his 'Jhalak Dikhlaja' judge (Chetan Bhagat will struggle for sure) credentials by setting the stage on fire with 'Aunty Ji'. He was joined by an equally exuberant Anushka Sharma. Anushka earlier in the evening got emotional as she lip synced to 'Dhadaam Dhadaam' from Bombay Velvet as Neeti Mohan poured her heart out. Both turned moist eyed and Kajal-enthused-tears flowed.

Neeti Mohan is a gifted singer. The real test for a singer is to perform for a live audience. A sound recordist can hide your blemishes in a studio and even enhance the singing impact courtesy various sound editing tools but during a live performance, a singer is on his/her own. Even though she sang for a strong media contingent, she wasn't nervous at all. The felicity with which Neeti hit the high notes was sensational. She mesmerised the audience with 'Mohabbat Buri Beemari', 'Sylvia', 'Naak Pe Gussa', 'Dhadaam Dhadaam' and was joined by Amit Trivedi on 'Behroopia'. A visibly excited Anurag Kashyap tried to give a few vignettes behind some of the songs. 'Sylvia' for example was Col. Nanavati's wife who indulges in an extramarital relationship with a Sindhi businessman Ahuja. Nanavati killed Ahuja and the subsequent court Case was one of the most followed and talked about Court cases in Indian judicial history.

Amit Trivedi and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya hosted the evening and displayed a cool comic flair. There was a lot of bantering happening between Amit, Anurag, Vikas Bahl, Ranbir, Anushka and Karan Johar. The usual Bollywood sycophancy was missing and everyone was being sporting (including Anurag who tends to lose his cool rather frequently these days). It remains to be seen how these energizing vibes translate onto the big screen when Bombay Velvet releases next week.
