10 Stand-out facts about Bombay Velvet

1. Bombay Velvet took nearly 10 years to come to the screen. Anurag Kashyap first decided to make the film before Gangs Of Wasseypur. But the research and the finances took longer to be put together than expected.

2. Original choice for the main part of Johnny Balraj was Ranveer Singh. His dates were being worked out when Ranbir Kapoor showed interest. The rest, as they say, is history. Apparently, Ranveer got to know he wasn't doing the film only when he read about it.

3. Anushka Sharma was the first and last choice to play the jazz singer Rosie Noranha. She got her lips re-shaped so she would look convincing belting out the songs. Wonder what she would have done if she played an opera singer.

4. One of Anushka's songs 'Jata Kahaan Hai Deewane' was originally sung by Geeta Dutt and filmed on Waheeda Rehman in Guru Dutt's CID. Waheedaji recently ran into Anushka. They exchanged notes on the song.

5. Karan Johar plays the Parsi villain Kaizad Khambatta. The mild-mannered filmmaker still can't figure out why and how Anurag thought of him in that evil part. Maybe Anurag can see things in Karan that we can't.

6. Raveena Tandon was cast in a voluptuous cameo which has now been almost removed from the script. Anurag claims to be Raveena's fan ever since he wrote Shool for her. With fans like these who needs fangs? Fans, but no fans.

7. Anurag Kashyap recreated Mumbai in the 1960s in Sri Lanka. The entire film was shot on the scenic island.

8. Amit Trivedi who has composed the music worked for nearly three years on the sound. The songs and background music were created after hearing the music that was played during that era.

9. Two relationships grew and fructified during the making of Bombay Velvet. While Anusha's batted her eyelids at cricketer Virat Kohli who was bowled over, Katrina and Ranbir also became a pair to bear. On the flip side the director's marriage broke up. What to do Chhodo Kalki baatein….

10. It is rumoured that the period film has gone grossly over-budget. According to an estimate, the current budget of Bombay Velvet stands at Rs. 120 crores making it the most expensive film ever produced in India. Amen.
