Dil Dhadakne Do

Would this week's eagerly awaited film Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD) complete a hat trick of out-of-the-box successes within a month, after Shoojit Sircar's Piku and Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu Returns?

Trade experts seem to think Zoya's film has the potential to crack the box office code the third time. Says Taran Adarsh, "Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and now Dil Dhadakne Do have one trait in common: they focus on human relationships in a thoroughly entertaining style."

Taran is all praise for Zoya's film. "DDD is an extremely well-made film. I genuinely feel very few directors can tackle relationships with as much sensitivity as Zoya Akhtar."

Says trade expert Amod Mehra, "Yes, DDD will definitely complete the hat trick. The buzz is fantastic and the opening will be big. I expect a Rs. 50-60 crores weekend."

Says Atul Mohan, "The trade is hoping DDD would be a hit, and so am I. It looks so fresh and different that we expect it to complete a hat trick of out-of-the-box successes. It has beautiful locales, a stunning ensemble cast. The banner, the timing of release, the look are all perfect so far. Fingers crossed."

However, film critic Raja Sen feels the current success streak at the box office is not only about one film. "Other than Gabbar Is Back, all the hits this year have been offbeat: from Badlapur to NH10 to Piku. It just shows the audience is hungry for solid storytelling."
