John Abraham speaks about his father on the occasion of Fathers Day

The brawny and handsome dude of Bollywood aka John Abraham has surely been one of the powerful youth icons. We all know John Abraham as the successful supermodel, actor and producer… but time round, on the occasion of 'Father's Day', we look at John Abraham as 'the ideal son'.

Satish Sundaresan of Bollywood Hungama caught up with the 'hunky' son John Abraham, wherein he spoke about relationship with his father.

John, to start with, what does the term 'Father' symbolize to you?
My dad is my philosopher, friend and guide. As cliched as it sounds, he is actually all of that!

How had been your relationship with your father during your childhood?
It has been the same. He has been a friend and a father the same time.

Can you please share with us some of your earliest memories?
When I was growing up, I once used an expletive. My father punished me by making me stand by the door for over three hours. It taught me to be respectful to people, and mindful of the language I use, which is why it is a part of my DNA today. You will never catch me abusing or using expletives off guard. This little incident has shaped me into the individual I am today.

When did your father become your hero and your best friend?
He has always been that for me. He has always instilled a certain value system in me and that has stayed with me till today. When people talk to me, the one thing that I do not have to fight for is credibility.

While growing up, which family member did you go to for advice?
I take my own advice and make mistakes (smiles).

Is there anything that you always wanted to tell your father, but never got a chance to do so? Can you please share the same here?
I admire my father for who he is – I'm proud to say he has shaped me into the man I am today.

What are the traditions that your father passed on to you, that you will pass on to your children?
My father just told me that I do not have to go to a religious place to be a good person. Just do good to be a good person and I have taken that very seriously.

Can you recall the top three happiest moments in your life so far?
Three happy moments for me was when I got into my MBA course, when I won the Gladrags competition and when my first movie became a hit.

What is that one thing that you have learnt or imbibed from your father?
He always said 'Son, always keep your feet on the ground and remember where you come from.' I never forget that.

According to you, who makes the best onscreen father?
Undoubtedly, it is Mr. Bachchan with me in Viruddh. He was fantastic in that movie.

If there's one song that you could 'DADDY-cate' to your illustrious father, which will that be and why?
It would be 'DADDY COOL'.

We are here talking about Father's Day and this concept of #DATEWITHDAD? What do you think about it?
The brand's idea of giving a rare opportunity to those who wanted to thank their dad is so relatable and inspiring. We have all become so busy in our own lives that we have forgotten the essence of relationships and the value of rare and intimate moments with loved ones. I share a very special relationship with my father; he has been a constant source of inspiration and support throughout my life. I thank Johnnie Walker Blue Label #DATEWITHDAD for giving me this opportunity tell him what he means to me.
