Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…While controversies are a by-product of fame and glamour, Bollywood celebrities will this time face the wrath of the government over endorsements of pan masala. The gutka pan masala is endorsed by some superstars in the industry who will now face trouble since the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) has decided to take action against them.
Claiming it to be a subtle way of promoting consumption of tobacco, gutka and similar products, the FDA will be issuing notices to the celebrities who promote gutka and its surrogate products. Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, commissioner of FDA has also urged people to support government's anti-tobacco campaign in order to reduce the consumption of these products.
An event was recently held by the WHO (World Health Organization) to gauge the effect of the legal ban of tobacco and gutka in Maharashtra and the reports did show a decline in the rate of its consumption.
