Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad and BJP MP Prathap Simha have allegedly received death threats on social media as the controversy rages in Karnataka over the birth anniversary celebrations of 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan. Faisal Saif who is known for his film 'Main Hoon Rainikanth' which sparked a huge controversy last year came in for the support of the actor.

The 39 year old Film maker recently posted on his Twitter and Facebook handle "Take a bow Dr.Girish Karnad. Only you have proved that you are a true Indian". Faisal came into limelight when Tamilnadu superstar Rajinikanth went to the court to stop release of the film Main Hoon Rajinikanth which was written and directed by Faisal Saif. The maker however later changed the film's title falling under producer's pressure.

Karnad, who came under severe attack for his remarks that Bengaluru international airport should have been named after Tipu Sultan rather than the city’s founder, Kempe Gowda, received a threat on Twitter that he would meet with the same fate as rationalist MM Kalburgi.

Saif, calling out other Film fraternity further wrote in his post "Is Film Industry sleeping? And you say we are a Family??"
