Sarbjit music concert A landmark evening

It was a magical musical evening at Rang Sharda Auditorium in Mumbai as the spectacular music of Omung Kumar's Sarbjit was unleashed in full abandon. It was a genuine ode to music, musicians and Sarbjit, a man who was wronged and a man whose sad story permeated the collective conscience in the auditorium yesterday. It was ironical that the man who plays Sarbjit, Randeep Hooda didn't get his due. None of the hoardings had Randeep on them. Many of the musicians paid rich obeisance to Hooda and rightly so. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan couldn't attend the evening as she has not been keeping well.

Sonu Nigam is recovering from an operation and when he moved towards the stage with the support of his crutches, there was a large round of applause. It was the first time in the last two months that Sonu had moved out of his house. Jeet Ganguly accompanied Sonu on a guitar and what followed was an incredible experience. The whole auditorium reverberated with Dard. It was a sensational goose pimple evoking experience. Full marks to the guys who handled the sound for the evening. They did an exceptional job. No glitches at all. The acoustics of the auditorium are brilliant too.

Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shail Hada and Kalpana Gandharv ignited everyone into celebrating Sarbjit with 'Tunglak'. It was an intoxicating rendition with Sukhwinder dancing and emoting his way to glory. Shail Hada was in a trance state as he belted out one brilliant number after another. Right from the theme music of Sarbjit dealing in thought provoking scatting, to the spiritual 'Barsan Lagi', 'Meherbaan' or 'Mera Junoon'.

Tanishk Bagchi is another composer to watch out for. Both his numbers, 'Rabba' and 'Allah Hu' are difficult compositions but both touch the heart effortlessly and leave a long lasting impression. Shashi Shivam went into another world as they belted out 'Nindiya'. The live acoustic guitaring was passionate. A special mention has to be done for lyricist Rashmi Virag who has been churning out some really interesting thoughts and uniquely expressing them in a brand new idiom. A special mention also needs to be made for T Series chief Bhushan Kumar who personally supervised the entire evening giving a lot of personalised respect and attention towards all the composers, singers and lyricists.
