When Film Industry in the neighboring country Pakistan are screaming about it’s revival, Humayun Saeed gathers courage to produce a “Risky” film called Main Hoon Shahid Afridi with the backdrop of Pakistani Cricket. No, This film is not about famous cricketer Shahid Afridi’s life. Yes, The film does draw few small inspirations from Shahrukh Khan’s Chak De India. But this one is genuine effort.

Main Hoon Shahid Afridi released in August (Some 2 months back) and generated positive reviews. The film runs on multiple tracks with stories.

Akbar Deen (Humayun Saeed) a cricketer who’s the pride and joy of his family that includes a sweet Mother, a disciplined Father (Nadeem Baig), a loving Wife (Mahnoor Baloch) and Son (Mikaal). It is cleared in the beginning that Mahnoor’s Father (Javed Shaikh) hates Akbar. Akbar gets implicated with illegal drugs after he gets drunk by an orange juice drink and a dance item by Mathira in Dubai. Akbar is put behind the bars for a crime which he never committed and his career is out of the cricket grounds.

Time passes by and years later, Shahid (Noman Habib), a youngster from Sialkot (Where Akbar Deen lived) who works the cash register in a local restaurant, pushes the owner of his local cricket club (Ismail Tara, playing Malick Khalid) to try the team for a Pepsi-sponsored tournament. Shahid is passionate about Cricket and just has one dream – To meet his inspiration “The” Shahid Afridi face to face one day.

Akbar is back in Sialkot for solving his past puzzles and convinced to become the coach of this team which later he renames Sialkot Shaheens. But destiny has a shocking surprise waiting for Akbar in the store which will turn his life upside down.

As i speak of Performances, Humayun Saeed rocks. Hats off to the actor who chose this film as an actor and a producer, And still managed to leave a strong mark on you despite of the presence of other good actors. Only Humayun Saeed or Shaan Shahid’s caliber actors can take such huge risks. Noman Habib is wonderful as Shahid Bhatti. His innocence is something that you cannot take your eyes of. Nadeem Baig is sweet as usual and wins your heart with his charm. Javed Shaikh is good as Mian Qureshi. He makes you “Hate” his character whenever he is on the screen. Shafqat Cheema is a living legend according to me in Pakistan. However, Mahnoor Baloch couldn’t act and was very disappointing. The other girl who played Journalist Ainy Jaffri was also very flat on her expressions. Ainan Arif who played Michael Magnet is simply superb!

Syed Ali Raza Usama has made a good film and lots of hard work has gone into it. But somewhere down the line you start to feel that the makers are trying to take you for a Ride. The Production Value, Camera Work are decent. Surprisingly, The film also has good music and especially the theme song “Aan Dey”. The Editing of the film is very weak and drags in both hour. There are few unwanted scenes that makes the film a little Bore.

But overall, The film is a decent and honest effort. Thanks to Humayun Saeed for making this film and giving a new pride to Pakistani Cinema which is really going from a rough phase. Main Hoon Shahid Afridi is compelling, Do give this film a view.
