Over the past few seasons, there is one U.K. line that’s become quite famous for its prints: Preen. But it’s not just the exciting patterns and wild colors that have kept us enthralled. It’s the excitement of what it will come up with next…which happens to be perfectly illustrated in the latest line for pre-fall ’13.
In the past, we’ve been gripped by Preen’s pixelated graphics, flouncy florals, and animal prints, but for pre-fall, the design duo of Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi have gone a bit more traditional with their choice of a classic tartan — that is, tartan when worn by the biggest rebel around. The red-and-black pattern adorns boxy bombers, slightly slouchy trousers, and collars that peek beneath the mussed-up tresses of a model who’s not afraid to give us a bit of a stink eye. With the collection’s mix of borrowed-from-the-boys tailoring and feminine-but-not-overly-girlish appeal, Preen proves it can keep its creative momentum up from season to season — and all the pre-seasons in between.
As for the rest of the collection, the designs incorporate other prints, such as pebble-like polka dots, zebra stripes, and ornate cutouts that appear on sheath dresses. Throw in a few sexy, body-hugging frocks and chic, oversized coats, and Preen pre-fall isn’t just for the “bad girl.” It’s a perfectly well-rounded collection for any lady who’s not afraid of a little rebellion. Hear, hear!
