We have a love for Mindy Kaling that goes much deeper than her style choices. However, she’s been killing it in that department, too, as of late. Remember this classy number? But her most recent outfit, we must admit, gave us pause. While the over-the-top floral suiting from the Marc Jacobs Resort 2013 collection was absolutely gorgeous on the runway, it’s the very definition of hard to wear. Kaling, brave girl that she is, decided to try it out at a 4th of July party in California.
We’re pretty much on board with the dress itself, but the accessories may be a little misguided. The shoes are, like any white pumps, a bit ’80s, but they’re a cute, simple match. The bracelets and watch are minimal and sweet, but the earrings and bag seem like a bit much. The heavily-studded handbag is taking this look to the edge of crazy art teacher territory, and while that’s definitely one way of describing the collection’s intended vibe, it’s a very hard thing to do well in reality. Definitely not a horrifically bad outfit, but not her raddest, either — or are we being too harsh? Either way, we give her major props for trying out this tricky style!
