“We used to get a lot of requests from our customers who wanted to do something different. They always had a dream to do some extraordinary stuff,” Sachin Chavan, senior marketing manager of motorcycle brand Royal Enfield explained of the event it has been organising since 2005 to cater to its Bullet riders who wanted to do something different to satiate their adventurous drive.
“Riding a Bullet gives a different feeling altogether, hence they wanted to cash on this feeling and we came up with the idea of this journey, which has a mix of everything,””Chavan said over the phone from Chennai.
To this end, come June 14 and 50 Bullet riders from all over India will set off from Delhi for Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir via Chandigarh, Manali and Keylong and cover a distance of approximately 2,500 kilometers. Entry is on a first-come-first-served basis and the riders will have to pay Rs.18,500 each for participating in the event.
“This is our way of making their dreams come true. There are many bike lovers who are passionate about their vehicles and with this trip, we want to enrich their experience,”Chavan explained.
According to Chavan, the distance doesn’t matter on this trip. What matters is the tricky terrain that has to be negotiated.
“The journey begins with the simple track and with each passing day, the ride becomes difficult with tough roads and difficult terrain but at the end of the trip, every biker will be enriched with a sense of achievement,” Chavan maintained.
Each bike will have only one rider and Chavan explained the reason for this.
“The roads on the journey are very difficult and tough, and at times very steep, so we don’t want any of the bikers to struggle with the extra weight of a pillion rider,” he pointed out.
“Secondly, this trip is meant to give a rider a wonderful experience on his bike, which can be felt only if one rides alone in the beautiful terrain of the Himalayas,” he added.
In terms of safety measures, the organisers will arrange for a bus to carry luggage bus, a service support team and a doctor for the trip.
“While the main theme is an exhilarating experience, the underlying emphasis is on safety in every aspect of the ride. Whether it is planning of the route or execution of the ride, we have experts and experienced individuals to guide the riders in various aspects of bike riding and coping with the weather and terrain,” Chavan said.
