Hundreds of the State citizens gathered at the State’s Secretariat General in solidarity with the rest of South Sudan to protest against Sudan’s role in stealing their oil.

Speaking during the peaceful demonstration, the State Deputy Governor Hon. William Daud Riek said, “The Republic of South Sudan’s decision is welcome and it’s well calculated.”

“South Sudanese dint survive on oil since their creation as human beings and even after the discovering the mineral in South Sudan, people can still survive using other resources despite the country’s 98% oil revenues,” he added.

“The government of the Republic of South Sudan will look for other alternatives while its oil is in safe custody until the country’s pipeline is constructed to East Africa,” the Unity State Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Engineer William Gatjang Geng said.

He also stressed that, “South Sudan’s oil is not in safe hands under the North government that keeps stealing it and blocking its transportation to the International markets.”

The State’s official spokesperson who is the State Minister of Information and Communication said that, “the idea to shut down all the South Sudan oil wells is the only option and no one should worry about the decision since South Sudan is not in a position and will not pay the required transit fees claimed by the government in Khartoum.”

The event was attended by Ministers, Advisors, Members of the Legislature and Commissions, youths and women groups.
