On Thursday, the ANC Youth League expressed that Limpopo learners were still waiting for the textbooks to be delivered to them.

Angie Motshekga the Basic Education Minister uttered that she was shock to see the non-delivery of textbooks for Grade 10 pupils in Limpopo.  She said in an apology statement, “The situation is completely unacceptable. I have demanded a full report about reasons for this delay so that appropriate steps can be taken.” She personally apologized to the Limpopo parents and pupils for the circumstances and ensured that a recovery plan had been developed so pupils could make up for wastage of time.
The provincial spokesman Klaas Nono Mabunda said in a statement, “We demand that all learners be given the obligatory pass as the situation is stimulated by the government itself.” And then he added, “The lack of learner support materials particularly textbooks comes with a lot of misfortunes to learners in grade 11 and 12.”

Mabunda said, “The league support the call by the South African Democratic Teachers Union in Limpopo and other affected unions on their demand for remuneration as concocting the recovery plan will mean that there will not be resting on the part of teachers this year.”

Congress of the People acting provincial chairperson Patrick Sikhutshi said that it was very common that the government did not respect court orders. He said, “The department is in contempt of the court order and both Minister Motshekga and MEC Dickson Masemola have some explaining to do.” He also added, “The department is not taking the education of our children very serious, particularly that of the poorest of the poor, who continue to be marginalized.”
