“I will work hand in hand with the government of the state to bring, stability and reconciliation among my people,” said Miakol.

The commissioner said that his first priority in office will be the creation of the county headquarters at Wanaruop.

The commissioner said he will work together with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) commander in Pigi County to bring peace among his communities.

Jonglei Speaker Peter Chol Wal urged the new commissioner to help in reconciling the two warring communities in the area so as to avoid the frequent conflicts.

Former Pigi County Commissioner James Aleu Mijak resigned in June following his disappointment over increased insecurity in Pigi County.

Issues such as cattle rustling, child abduction and general insecurity have existed in the county despite efforts to involve the local communities in efforts to address insecurity.
