According to the SAJP Training Advisor for SSNPS Paul Morisetti, the programme is funded by UK Aid and it involves professional development training by representatives from the Scottish Police College.

The trainers from the UK are ex- senior police officers with extensive policing experience, and work in conjunction with local trainers who assist in the delivery of the training

He disclosed that the SAJP is implementing similar programs in Kuacjok, Torit and Juba with possible extension to other parts of the country.

The training covers leadership, decision making, personal effectiveness, motivation and community policing.

Participants from the initial training will progress for further development training.

“This is designed to assist participants with leadership and management skills, although students with exceptional potential may have the opportunity to progress to an 18-month UK Policing Diploma,” said Morisetti.

He said that 15 members of the SSNPS have just returned from Scottish Police College following a 3-week Train the Trainer Diploma course and are now embarking on an 18-month distance-learning diploma.

The combined goal of all the courses is towards the development of a more transparent policing service in South Sudan which will be effective in protecting the citizens.

Great policing is accomplished by police who are well-trained and led, restrained in their use of force, honest, and courteous to every person
