Held nine times since 2006, this year marks the second time that key stakeholders will be meeting as an independent nation under the interim constitution.

Organized by the Office of the President, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Forum provides a platform for discussion and action on policies related to political, fiscal and administrative governance issues.

In addition, it offers a space for broader discussion on important issues such as, corruption, post-independence issues and state-level concerns.  It has become a platform for making key decisions and launching major initiatives such as Roundtable on Decentralization which was conceived at the Governors’ Forum in 2011.

“Since its establishment, the Governors’ Forum has developed into a pivotal event that drives dialogue and brings leaders together to discuss the key issues that affect the states of South Sudan,” said Balázs Horváth, Country Director.

At last year’s Governors’ Forum over 100 recommendations and resolutions were accepted on issues ranging from public sector reform, security, legal affairs, infrastructure, and food security.

The Forum will be facilitated by the Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who has been instrumental in gathering and presenting the Forum’s resolutions and recommendations at previous events.

This year’s theme is ‘Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security and Economic Growth” and will cover topics including economic development, mechanisms to support agricultural development and production, the South Sudan Development plan as well as individual state issues.
