“The ruling party the SPLM has taken over in the commission 66 percent of the members. Is it a real constitution? I will consider it to be only a one party constitution not of the Republic of South Sudan,” Hon. Onyoti Adigo, the Minority Leader said yesterday during a public debate on the amendment of the South Sudan Transitional Constitution in Juba.
“If the constitution is for the people of the people and by the people and then I think everybody should get involved in the process of reviewing this constitution right from the very beginning, people should have set up our objectives in reviewing this constitution, what do we want from it and after there we go to the people,” he said.
The NCRC comprises of 55 members: nine full-time members and 46 part-time members appointed in January, February, May and July last year prior to the establishment of the commission.
Of the 55 members, SPLM has 26 members and the 29 comprises of the other political parties, civil society, religious leaders and representatives from other bodies.
