Oscar Pistorius was found upset about his father’s racist remarks. Henke Pistorius told journalists that the high level of crimes in the country had forced his son to keep weapons at home. He went on accusing the government for failing to protect the white community.

“Some of the guns are for hunting and some are for protection, the hand guns. It speaks to the ANC government, look at white crime levels, why protection is so poor in this country, it’s an aspect of our society,” Henke Pistorius said.

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) accuses the father of passing derogatory and racist comments. Oscar Pistorius allegedly shot his girlfriend dead on 14 February. Pistorius claims to have shot through the door after hearing unusual sounds. He allegedly mistook Reeva Steenkamp for a burglar and ended up shooting her. Steenkamp died after Pistorius fired multiple shots into the toilet of his apartment in a gated housing complex in Pretoria.

Reportedly, the Pistorius family cornered Henke was reading his comments. Family spokesman Arnold Pistorius said “the Pistorius family own weapons purely for sport and hunting purposes. The comments don’t represent the views of Oscar or the rest of the Pistorius family.”

Criticizing Henke’s remarks, ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu said: “Not only is this statement devoid of truth, it is also racist. It is sad that he has chosen to politicize a tragic incident that is still fresh in the minds of those affected and the public. We call on South Africans to desist from wild and prejudiced speculation. Let us give our courts a chance to deal with this matter.”
