Agriculture Minister Launches Aweil Rice Mill

The delegation to Aweil also included the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Resources, Fisheries, Cooperatives and Rural Development led by Director General and other technical team members from the ministry.

Rice Mill is a rice gash machine that donated by GIZ along with other various crucial equipments which are useful in the rice scheme.

During the opening remark released by Ms Lily, she says her ministry is tasked to work hand in with state ministries of Agriculture in empowering agricultural sectors across the 10 states as to implement the president’s call on the governors to prioritize agriculture as the only way to fight poverty and become self-reliant.

“I am very happy to be seeing many of you especially farmers taking initiatives on agricultural sector, this is the only way our country can revive strength economically and becomes self-reliant and self-sustainable. I have understood your problems especially from the farmers and state ministry of Agriculture; now what remains is how we can get solutions to those problems from the national level to the state level,” Ms Amuk explains to the audience during the inauguration ceremony at the Rice Scheme premise in Aweil.

Despite the challenges arising in the agricultural sector across the 10 states of the new nation, Albino emphasizes that food security is number one priority to South Sudan and in particular to her ministry’s mandate.

“As national Ministry of Agriculture, we are aware of the problems and we have already known where they come from and what is needed to solve those problems. We need to work together and succeed. We know that most of the farming happens in the states; and to have surplus food production these states must be well equipped through farmers and state ministries of Agriculture in each state,” she said on the complaints from farmers.

Furthermore, the national delegation urges the project staff and state ministry of agriculture to efficiently work hand in hand to promote agricultural sector so that they implement president’s pledge to the citizens by 2014.

On the other hand, the acting governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Salva Chol Ayat says the launching of the Rice Mill has happened at the right time for the right purpose especially as exemplary to the community on the importance and the promotion of the project in the state.

“We’re privileged to have this national project of Aweil Scheme in this state, this is not of granted but of the suitability of the project to yield well in this state, it is great teaching methodology to young people so that they embrace on agriculture as a career rather than ignoring it,” he said.

He later called on the labourers who are given the responsibility of the rice scheme to continue learning from the technicians who taught them on technical aspect of the project.
