Repent Woro Odrani, the Director of Mundri Active Youth Association (MAYA) in Western Equatoria State said youth should fully get involved in activities that promote hard work, development and peace building in the communities.

Repent said youth should not undermine casual or any kind of work, adding that they should use their hands on any skills they have and stand strong and committed to educate the communities on the socio-economic and health issues in the county.

He added that this is time for work not for laziness and youth should wake up and develop the county and the nation at large.

“This time is time for work not for laziness,” said Repent.

Repent also said Mundri Active Youth Association uses live dramas, puppetry shows, production of educative movies and songs to promote peaceful co-existence among the communities in the county and the state at large.

The Association also educates the communities on issues related to human right, child protection, gender base violence, health education and socio-economic activities.

Repent added the youth in Greater Mundri have greatly benefited from Mundri Active Youth Association in terms of capacity building where some of them gained skills in various fields, which gave them a high opportunity to access white collar jobs in Non Governmental Organizations in the county and the country at large.

The Association has also supported the women group in Mundri West County with goats that has helped the women to secure money which solves the problems of school fees for their children.

As the only youth group that uses arts and drawing to convey information to the educated, non-educated, the blind and the deaf, the group had made the communities of Greater Mundri to have peaceful National Democratic election in the Sudan in 2010 and the 2011 Southern Sudan Referendum which gave the South Sudanese a defined destiny on 9th July 2011.

Repent said the activities of the association have greatly improved on the issues of insecurity, conflicts among the communities, gender-based violence, child abuse and girl-child education in the county.

Mundri Active Youth Association was formed by the youth of Greater Mundri in 2004, supported by Non Governmental Organization such Action Africa Help CAPOR South Sudan program, Oxfam Novi, UNICEF and other Partners in promoting peace and socio-economic activities in Mundri West County in Western Equatoria State.
