The five percent deduction was announced by the Lakes State Ministry of Finance, Trade, Industry and Commence on November 15, according to a document signed by the Finance Minister Joseph Maker Madit on November 15 which was extended to press by confidential sources within the ministry.

The document indicated that the cut will affect Lakes state civil servants and was supposed to be executed by November but now being imposed on October salaries as a compulsory contribution to the ruling SPLM.

They Lakes State employees from various ministries made several demands on the state government to revise what they named as “an ill decision” imposed by state authorities without reviewing the living conditions of the employees.

However, the Finance Minister has distanced himself from the decision to deduct the salaries saying that the decision was taken under the directive of Lakes state caretaker Governor Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol.
