The Archbishop’s call came after the government of South Sudan and the rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar reaffirmed commitment for dialogue by sending delegations to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa ready for the ceasefire talks.

“We are now celebrating this New Year grieved following political violence that succumbed the parts of the nation, where hundreds of innocent lives were lost and many other displaced, however, we call upon God Almighty to immediate restore, peace and stability in our nation by changing the hearts of our people to embrace, peace, unity and mutual understanding,” the Archbishop said.

The cleric appreciated the goodwill and effort from the international community seeking to bring South Sudanese politicians for peaceful dialogue and the settlement of political fiasco that erupted after the alleged coup attempt on December 15, 2013.

The Archbishop urged South Sudanese to stop seeing themselves as tribes but as nation and condemned those politicians who want to create tribal hatred among populace as way to pursue their interests.

“We need to be realistic and shun what divide our nation , rumour of tribal divisions need to be stopped, especially among you as Christians, you came from different ethnic background and tribes but you are now united under one tribe of Christianity, therefore, a good Christian work for peace, unity and prosperous of his or her nation,” said the Archbishop.

He calls upon all political forces and individual politicians to commit themselves for genuine settlement of all differences that arise among them amicably and stop creating environment for bloodshed.
