Rizik’s visit will focus on strengthening the state’s diplomatic relationship with the Arab Republic in terms of trade economic links. Other goals include the establishment of direct flights from Cairo to Wau. During the visit, he will engage in talks with government officials, including Ministers and three Commissioners, as well as potential partners interested in investment in the region. He will be accompanied by members of the NBGS cabinet.

Speaking to journalists earlier this week, Hassan said he will also have a tour into some regions across Egypt as a means of advertising his state. The rationale for his tour is that, as Wau may soon host the national capital of South Sudan, more investment is needed in natural resources.

Governor Hassan has in the past called for economic ties with foreign countries. In February 2008, he and his Northern Bahr el Ghazal state counterpart, former governor Paul Malong Awan, visited Spain and the United Arab Emirates where they signed investment deals on behalf of the government of South Sudan.

The two officials signed mining and petroleum exploration deals with companies in Madrid and Dubai, hoping the deals would create economic improvement in South Sudan. However, some of the deals then agreed were recently blocked by the current security crisis in South Sudan.

In 2012, a high profile group of Singapore investors visited WBGS as part of their economic roadmap agreements. Last year, the state hosted a large investors forum conference which was attended by different representatives from across the world.

Governor Hassan has consistently proved to be committed to raising the profile and economic prospects of WBGS, culminating in his calls for the removal of South Sudan’s capital from Juba to Wau.
