The Aguok Community is administered under four Payams, Alek West, Gogrial Payam, Alek North and Alek South Payams . The leadership has employed a system of rotational headship among the four Payams to prevent any power struggle.
The row between the communities came as a result of the nomination of Makiir Gai from the Aguok-baar.
Makiir’s candidacy is being challenged, because he belongs to the section of the outgoing chairman a reason as to why the Aguok-chiek withdrew from the conference on December 28.
The outgoing head is said to hail from the Aguok-baar subsection and that the chance of leadership should now be from the Aguok-chiek community.
Chan Peei, a member of the Aguok-baar community says that the leadership is being imposed as opposed to following the system already in place.
“Our Conference has been going on well without any problem but only until our big brothers coming from Juba imposed on us a leader we don’t want.
