President Salva Kiir Mayardit has sacked four Governors and appointed replacements.

JUBA, 17 August 2015 [Gurtong] – Through a decree read out on the state-owned SSTV on Sunday, President Kiir has relieved the Governors of Central Equatoria, Western Equatoria, Upper Nile and Warrap States.

The new development came a few hours after the president left for Addis Ababa peace talks.

Governors Major General Clement Wani Konga Gwollo of Central Equatoria , Colonel Joseph Bangasi Bakasoro of Western Equatoria, Major General Simon Kun Puoch of Upper Nile and Nyandeng Malek Deliech of Warrap states respectively have been replaced.

President Kiir has appointed caretaker Governors of the states with Ali Juma Malou becoming the Governor of Central Equatoria, Brigadier Patrick Dominic Zamoe takes over in Western Equatoria, Lieutenant General Chol Thon Balok in Upper Nile and Canal Akech Tong Aleu becomes the new Warrap State Governor.

The President has also appointed Major General Akot Deng Akot the caretaker Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, replacing the Deputy Governor Salva Chol Ayat who has been acting in the capacity. Ayat will resume his position.

The four Governors were elected into their offices during the 2010 general elections.

Reasons for their dismissal remain unknown.
