Mayawati has sent a letter on the subject to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“If necessary, a modification to the Constitution may be considered to provide stipulation proportionate to minorities’ population, especially the Muslims. My government is fully committed to cooperate on the issue,” said Mayawati in her letter.
CM’s letter has requested the PM for taking immediate measures on priority basis, barely a few months before the 2012 assembly elections in the state. She said that she firmly believes in the need of providing more opportunities in the field of education and employment if a change has to be brought in the living conditions of minorities especially the Muslims.

She further informed that these facts have already been mentioned in the Sachar committee report as well.
CM said that the Sachar committee has proposed a number of means for the welfare of minorities. The recommendations as told by her, includes the measures to provide more opportunities for education, adequate participation in the economic activities and employment, bringing improvement in living conditions of Muslims, checking communalism and preventing communal violence.
