MANMOHAN New_YorkOn Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan left for New York after his overnight stay in Frankfurt. Mr Manmohan will be participating in the high level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr Manmohan will address the Assembly, on Saturday, during which the PM will focus on UN Security Council reforms, principally growth of the world body’s top organ.

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appears before the United Nations to focus on required worldwide challenges such as economic hold up, terrorism and unrest in West Asia and North Africa, the sources reported.

The high-level team accompanying Mr Manmohan includes External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, his Principal Secretary TKA Nair, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai.

“The United Nations must be seen as an impartial, credible and effective body. I will stress the need for early reform of this unique organization, particularly an expansion of its Security Council”. The PM said before his departure.

The PM also said that India’s efforts to advance international peace and security have enhanced the success and effectiveness of policy making body. 

The Prime Minister will be holding bilateral meetings, during his visit to New York, with the Presidents of Sri Lanka, Iran, South Sudan and the Prime Ministers of Nepal and Japan.
